ioXpress KM Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions & Answers
What is ioXpress and what does it do?

The most critical problem facing organizations is the management of large amounts of data. ioXpress is a web-based enterprise knowledge management solution designed to help companies effectively manage their documents, enable knowledge sharing, and enhance communication. It serves as a knowledge manager for creation, editing, storage, and retrieval of reusable documents within a corporate environment. All document collections are categorized, centralized, and managed through a secure database platform.

Although ioXpress Knowledge Manager can solve a variety of corporate document management problems, it is designed to meet challenges facing chemical and petrochemical manufacturing companies, who must comply with regulatory standards such as OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) standard, EPA’s Risk Management Program, as well as their own internal corporate performance standards.

ioXpress 2003 is a powerful program that enables teams and organizations to efficiently gather the information they need through rich, dynamic forms. The information collected can easily be reused throughout organizations and across their business processes because ioXpress supports industry-standard Extensible Markup Language (XML). The XML support enables ioXpress customers to share information across their organizations and business processes for greater business impact. ioXpress is a web-based solution you can use to create libraries on an as-needed basis to manage group activities and produce shared deliverables.

For a complete description of the features and functionality of ioXpress, please see the ioXpress brochure.

What does ioXpress provide?

ioXpress provides customers with an easy and efficient way to create rich, flexible forms. In addition, ioXpress provides a user-friendly interface for entering information into these forms, transparently creating XML. Ready-to-use sample forms in ioXpress address common usage scenarios.

The power of ioXpress is the ability to link data to other data and documents in different formats. As changes are made, data can be linked to updated information. Consider the power and flexibility of the system when applied to PHA management. The action items generated by the PHA could be linked to drawings or procedures to provide positive verification that the item has been completed. The system will notify interested parties of upcoming deadlines for completion of tasks and when tasks are completed. The PHA study section could be updated for each change made to the process and the revised study section linked to an updated P & ID and process safety information providing the capability to continuously revalidate your PHAs for each change made to the process.

Why should organizations or teams consider using ioXpress?

ioXpress helps teams and organizations obtain the information they need in a timely manner, enabling them to make informed and effective decisions. ioXpress helps:
  • Collect information quickly and validate it against the organization's business criteria. This reduces errors, avoids having to redo work, and helps people more quickly and accurately get the information they need
  • Provide people with a flexible way to collect information so they can adjust to changing business conditions
  • Take advantage of existing IT investments and knowledge to ease the deployment costs of ioXpress

What are some of the typical ways teams and organizations might use ioXpress?

ioXpress can be applied to many different scenarios, either within organizations, within workgroups, or across suppliers or partners. Using ioXpress you could use specific modules that cover all the PSM elements. Some of the important modules cover:
  • Process safety information
  • Process hazard analysis
  • Management of change
  • Operating procedures
  • Mechanical integrity
  • Incident investigation
  • Training
  • Auditing

How can I use the forms and modules in ioXpress?

Let's start with a typical document, such as a form used to collect maintenance information. Some of the problems with this form are:
  • It's hard to use, it's inflexible, and it returns bad data because none of the data has been verified.
  • Employees might spend hours filling in the form. Usually, only experienced personnel can complete this form quickly.
  • It provides no integration with other systems, so employees have to track items using a mostly manual process.
  • It is designed to be filled in and printed, making the format inflexible and paper-based.
ioXpress can be used to move the forms to an electronic format, and solve this problem.

When will ioXpress be available?

ioXpress is available now.

How much will ioXpress cost? How will it be licensed?

Please contact ioMosaic for pricing and licensing information.

What do I need to use ioXpress?

Any Windows™-based client computer can use features of an ioXpress-based Web site, providing that Microsoft Internet Explorer™ browser version 4.0 or later is used.

For hosting the application, you'll also need Windows™ 2000 Server, or server access through a fee-based hosting provider.

How do I try out ioXpress?

To use ioXpress you must first signup using the Register link. You will receive a confirmation email containing your username and password, but your account will not be active until ioMosaic verifies your information and notifies you that your account is active.

Systems Administrator Questions & Answers
Is ioXpress a server technology or a client technology?

Neither, ioXpress is a Windows®-based technology that enables clients running a standard version 4.0 or later browser to collaborate and share information and documents using a Web site. ioXpress is installed on a server running Windows™ 2000 Server or Windows Advanced Server and Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0, and is accessed on the client using Internet™ Explorer or Netscape™ Navigator version 4.0 and later.

What is XML and what does it have to do with ioXpress?

XML, or Extensible Markup Language, is an open, industry-standard language for data. Having data in XML means that the information is transportable and can be easily shared and reused. Using ioXpress to gather information can thus improve the flow of information throughout the organization.

What platform does ioXpress run on?

ioXpress runs on a Windows™ 2000 (with Service Pack 1)–based platform running IIS 5.0. By default, ioXpress™ installs the Microsoft Data Engine (MSDE) to support the database requirements in dedicated environments, and uses SQL Server™ for high-traffic or shared hosting environments.

How scalable is ioXpress?

A single server running ioXpress with MSDE can provide more than adequate performance at moderate usage levels, supporting hundreds of sites, and thus thousands of users. However, if you replace MSDE with SQL Server™ 2000, you can significantly increase capacity, particularly if the database chores are offloaded to a dedicated database server.

How do I perform some common tasks?
